FAQ

  • Do I need a full bladder for the ultrasound?

No, you don’t need a full bladder! We do however recommend staying hydrated to get the best possible images of your baby. Make sure you drink plenty of clear fluids in the days (at least 5) leading up to your scheduled appointment (as you should already be doing anyway). This will help your baby’s amniotic fluid levels. More fluid = better images of your baby. We recommend at least 40oz daily, no soda or caffeine. Caffeine dehydrates the body and creates a negative effect on your efforts. Soda tends to make the fluid look hazy and murky. It doesn’t do much good to only drink water the night before or the day of your ultrasound appointment.

  • Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?

Usually, but not always. There are many factors that may prevent the sonographer from obtaining perfect images which include:
    (1) The position of the baby. Many babies cooperate with lots of open face views, smiles, and yawns. Others, however, hide behind their feet, hands, and the placenta. Other camera shy babies face the mother’s spine, giving us a great view of their back.
    (2) The location of the placenta plays an important role in obtaining perfect images as well. Anterior placentae tend to get in the way of viewing the baby’s face.
    (3) Low amniotic fluid and hazy fluid will limit the visibility of the baby. A clear pocket of fluid in front of the baby’s face is necessary to visualize the baby.
    (4) Obesity. If Mom is on the larger side images of your baby will be difficult to obtain because the sound waves must travel through Mom’s body first to reach the baby. The sound waves become weaker the farther they have to travel.
    (5) Previous C Section
    (6) Tummy Tuck
    (7) Fibroids

  • Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctors office?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Women seeking an elective prenatal ultrasound with Babies & Bellies must already be receiving treatment with a healthcare provider for prenatal care and have already undergone a medical diagnostic ultrasound.

  • Is it safe? Are there any risks to me or my baby?

Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to the mother or the baby . Routine scanning of all pregnancies is not normal throughout the United States.

  • Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services

  • Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes! In fact, we encourage our clients to invite family and friends to attend this joyous and wonderful experience. Bonding doesn’t just happen with Mom and Dad..

  • Are elective 2D/3D/4D/HD ultrasounds covered by insurance?

Some HSA flexible spending accounts that provide you with a VISA or MasterCard to use for medical expenses will cover our ultrasounds. You should call your insurance provider prior to your appointment to verify 3D ultrasounds are covered under your HSA plan. We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, and debit cards. We do not accept checks.

  • I see HD-Live offered as an upgrade, what is HD-Live?

HD Live is a High Definition 4D!!! The images are more of a flesh-tone color rather then the amber/sepia traditional 3D/4D color. HD Live is unlike anything you have seen in the prenatal imaging industry.
